Top officials of the UPAA paid a follow-up visit last March 25, 2014, to some 137 Yolanda Typhoon-afflicted students it is supporting through the “Kalinga kay Isko at Iska” program in UPV Tacloban College and UPM School of Health Sciences, Palo, Leyte.
As of this writing, the UPAA has donated more than Two Million Pesos (Php 2,000,000.00) for the student beneficiaries: Php 1.1 million generated from the UPAA-sponsored Willie Nepomuceno show “Comic Relief: It’s More Fund in the Philippines” in December 2013, plus Php 904,000.00 in donations from individual alumni and alumni organizations.
The UPAA contingent was warmly welcomed by the U.P. students in Leyte, who had prepared a short program, followed by an open forum wherein they voiced their concerns. Touched by the outpouring of help for them, the students expressed their gratitude for the assistance of the UPAA, including the opening of ATM accounts in their names through which their monthly stipends are coursed.
Assisted by UPV Tacloban College Associate Dean Anida Bernadette A. Batan-Lorenzo, the UPAA group who made the day trip to Tacloban City was composed of President Ponciano E. Rivera, Jr.; Treasurer Milagros A. De Guzman; PRO Elena V. Romero; Executive Director Romeo S.A. Carlos; and Accountant Elna A. Divino.
