New York City. The University of the Philippines Alumni Association NY Chapter announces its
successful production of yet another collection of life stories turned into a coffee table book as a fundraiser for scholarship in the Philippines. For the UP Centennial Celebration,Dr. Carmencita C. Quesada Fulgado was appointed Commissioner Abroad. She edited
MEMOIRS of UP Alumni Abroad MEMORIES …A Legacy Gift
and published the Memoirs of UP Alumni Abroad.This brought $50,000 to the University Scholarship Fund. Now, with her as current president, UPAA-NY sponsored its sequel, Memories…A Legacy Gift. This time, contributors are Filipinos, and non-Filipinos, UP and non-UP alumni…for “everyone has a story to tell, an experience to share, and gratitude to express” Dr. Fulgado explains.Just like the Memoirs book, each page is a donation. The net proceeds after the cost of publication has been deducted, will be added to the Scholarship Fund, now aimed at providing eligible needy students from the 7 independent units of the University, from Baguio to Mindanao. Dr. Fulgado adds that “no longer do students need to be in Diliman or Manila, they could be attending UP Iloilo , or UP Mindanao, UP Baguio, UP Los Banos, or UP Open University. To date, since Dr. Fulgado signed her first deed of donation with UP Foundation, in 2000 the endowment fund created by her “shepherding the flock from abroad” has reached $97,000 and helped 19 students finish college. Dr. Fulgado is leaving for the Philippines and on December 5th will besigning an additional $50,000 Deed of Donation, the initial net proceeds from Memories Project.She is also officially visit 4 campuses, meet with the Chancellors and fellow alumni to inspire them to do the same by relating her fundraising story….Mobilizing UP Alumni and Friends to Give Back.
