Members of the UPAA Board of Directors and staff, led by 2015-2018 President Ramon Maronilla, participated in the annual UP Lantern Parade in the early evening of December 10, 2015, Monday – undaunted by intermittent rains brought on by coming Typhoon Nona.
The UPAA contingent, mostly dressed in maroon, contributed an additional touch of nostalgia to the traditional affair by riding on a tranvia borrowed from the Intramuros Administration. It expectedly elicited not a few ohs and ahs from the appreciative spectators.
The tranvia was an electric-powered streetcar on rails that was the most popular public conveyance in the city of Manila in the early years of the twentieth century. Many students of the University of the Philippines, which was founded in 1908, rode on the tranvia during that era.
The UP Lantern Parade, a much awaited yearly festivity in the UP Diliman campus, has become a national media event featured on the evening news.
