The UP Alumni Association (UPAA) and Beta Sigma Fraternity, in cooperation with the offices of the UP President, UPD Chancellor, UP Theater, and UP College of Music, will stage the 3rd presentation of the UPAA Carillon Concert Seasons, “Gems of Music and Literature”, at 6:00 p.m., on October 27, 2016, Thursday, at the UP Carillon Plaza. Admission is free for members of the UP community, as well as all music-lovers.
The concert will feature poetry-reading, singing and instrumental playing wherein the vocal artists give breath and life to the marriage of the written, sung and spoken word; and the instrumentalists – both alone and accompanying vocalization – air dulcet tones in melodic tributes to literary and musical greatness.
The literary works will be masterpieces of prose, drama, poetry, and prayers from such writers and sources as William Shakespeare, National Artist for Literature NVM Gonzalez, National Hero Jose Rizal, as well as the Bible. The music will be from compositional titans like Giuseppe Verdi, Charles Gounod, Johann Sebastian Bach, Nicanor Abelardo, and Santiago Suarez.
“Gems of Music and Literature” follows closely on the heels of the first two highly successful UPAA Carillon Concerts – “Krizmazz Jazz at the Carillon” on December 10, 2015; and “Faces of Love” on February 12, 2016.
The UP Carillon has been and continues to be a monument and a witness to many a historical event, and this latest presentation at the UP Carillon Plaza is offered as a lasting reminder of this historical landmark’s role in UP history and the need to preserve and honor our long-standing traditions, icons, and their symbols.
