Carmencita Quesada-Fulgado PhD, president of UPAA-New York, announced in June 2013 that work has begun on her third coffee table book, Memories of UP Alumni United, with her as editor-publisher. The title follows the first two of a series: Memoirs of UP Alumni Abroad (2008) and Memories… a Legacy Gift (2012).
Dr. Fulgado reported that UP President Alfredo E. Pascual has consented to be Honorary Chair of Team One UP, with designees in the offices of the Chancellors as members.
Since signing her first deed of donation with the UP Foundation in 2000, the endowment fund created by her “shepherding” of alumni abroad has reportedly reached $153,000 and has helped 19 students finish college. With alumni abroad united with those in the Philippines, her goal is for the U.P. Alumni, Quesada-Fulgado and Friends Scholarship Fund to reach $200,000 by 2015. The interest earned will be awarded in the form of scholarships to students in each of the seven autonomous units of the University.
Dr. Fulgado is soliciting contributions in the form of memories/stories at least 2 pages long, with a $300 or P10,000 donation. The UP Open University, through Chancellor Grace Alfonso, has reportedly committed 50 pages. Other UP alumni may join as Sponsor ($1,000), Benefactor ($5,000), and Partner ($10,000). Their names will be printed on the book cover.
Contributors may have already been part of the first two books, but this time “they are to write for the University in gratitude for what has become of them and their children, grandchildren and beyond… their story, their legacy to be read by generations to come,” explains Dr. Fulgado.
