UPAA Lifetime Member Dr. Amelia Mangay-Maglacas, Ph.D., a graduate of the U.P. School of Nursing (Class 1950), donated P1 million to the UPAA on April 24, 2015. The gift was meant to augment the fund held in trust by the Association for the installation of an elevator at Ang Bahay ng Alumni for the benefit of elderly UPAA members.
Dr. Maglacas, with her son, Heraclito M. Maglacas, personally handed over the check to UPAA President and Alumni Regent Ponciano E. Rivera, Jr., who tendered a luncheon for them at the Board Room of Ang Bahay ng Alumni to mark the event.
Earlier, at the 2012 UPAA Homecoming and Reunion, the Golden Jubilarians (Class 1962) led by GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon donated P1,100,000.00 to jumpstart the elevator project.
Consultations have been on-going ever since between the UPAA and prospective suppliers of elevators in the country, as well as contractors who will undertake the civil works for the installation of the said lift. However, owing to the search for additional donors, costs have risen in the meantime.
More donations, anyone?
