NORBERTO P. MENDOZA, BSIE’80; Director
A man of many abilities and interests, engineer-cum-restaurateur Bert possesses the admirable versatility of having several pots steaming in the fire at the same time.
He is a Certified Professional Industrial Engineer (2010) by the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers, Inc. (PIIE) and the Industrial Engineering Certification Board (IECB).
A down-to-earth, but forward-looking investor, he is presently a stockholder in a number of branches of The Old Spaghetti House Restaurants (since 2005) and: Kangaroo Jack Restaurant (since 2011). He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of Mctosh, Inc. (The Old Spaghetti House franchisee) since 2004. In the same line, he is Chairman of the Board since 1997 of A Taste of Country, Inc./Country Spice Restaurant at the Philippine Stock Exchange Centre, Ortigas Center, in Pasig City.
At the same time, he is the proprietor of Aqua 2000 Water Refilling Station in Calumpang, Marikina City, since 1998; and Member of the Board of Directors of G.G. Mendoza Enterprises, Inc. (apartment and condominium rentals) in Kamias, Quezon City, since 1996. Thus, by design or otherwise, he caters to the most basic needs of man: food, water, and shelter.
Fresh from college, Bert began his career as Sales Engineer with Asia Industries, Inc. (1980-1981); then with Koldwinds, Inc. (1982-1983). He subsequently joined Caltex Philippines, Inc. (now Chevron Philippines, Inc.) as Sales Representative in 1983. He was Head of the Customer Services Dept. at the Pandacan Oil Terminal in Manila when he left in 1996.
He next moved on to government-owned-and-controlled corporations as Executive Assistant II with the Philippine Postal Corporation (2002-2004); Member of the Board of Directors of Granexport Manufacturing Corp. (2002-2006); and Executive Committee Member of the CHF Oil Mills Group (2003-2006).
He is a proud member of several organizations: Ateneo de Manila University Alumni Association since 1970; UP Industrial Engineering Alumni Association (UPIEAA) since 1980; UP Alumni Engineers (Member of the Board Directors and Vice-President – External, 2008-2010); Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers, Inc. (PIIE) since 2010; Tau Alpha Fraternity (Lifetime Member); UP Alumni Association (Lifetime Member and Member of the Board of Directors, 2012-2015). Bert is also Co-Manager of the UP Men’s Basketball Team.
