UPAA

The UP Alumni Association (UPAA) is the central organization of alumni of the University of the Philippines (UP) System, now comprising seven constituent universities located in 12 campuses throughout the country. UPAA has individual members as well as affiliated chapters in-country and abroad. These chapters are alumni associations of colleges and other academic units of the University, fraternities, sororities, and other student organizations, as well as associations of alumni based in certain cities or provinces in the Philipines and foreign countries.

Graduates and former students who earned at least 60 units from UP are qualified to be members of the UPAA. Lifetime and annual memberships are available. At present, UPAA has over 10,000 registered members.

The UPAA is governed by a Board of Directors with 23 members representing colleges in Diliman and the campuses in Baguio, Manila, Los Baños, Visayas and Mindanao. Elected every three years, the members of the Board choose among themselves the President and other officers of the Association. The President chairs the Board meetings, which are held at least once a month. The incumbent Board assumed office on 1 July 2009 and will serve until 30 July 2012. The UP President, the UPAA immediate past present, the UPAA executive director, and the Presidents of all affiliated chapters are ex-officio, nonvoting members of the Board.

The UPAA is recognized by the UP Charter, which grants the UPAA President a seat on the UP Board of Regents, the highest governing body of the UP System. The UPAA was founded in 1913, five years after UP was established.
