Dear Fellow Alumni:

We are pleased to inform you that the search has started for nominees to the following UPAA awards for 2010:

• UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awards
• UPAA Distinguished Service Awards
• UPAA Outstanding Alumni Chapter Award

These awards are explained in detail in the attached circular.

The award ceremonies will be held during the U.P. General Alumni-Faculty Homecoming & Reunion to be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, U.P. Diliman Campus, Quezon City.

The Distinguished Alumni Awards will be given in broad thematic areas rather than along narrow professional lines.  The award categories are as follows:

• Public service and good governance
• Poverty alleviation & human development
• Peace and social cohesion
• Gender equality/women empowerment
• Community empowerment
• Environmental conservation and sustainable development
• Entrepreneurship and employment creation
• Institutional/corporate social responsibility
• Culture and the arts
• Science and technology
• Education and health

Awards will not necessarily be given in all these categories if there are no deserving nominees, while other fields or areas of award may be considered as defined by the achievements of a deserving nominee. 

The UPAA is making a special effort this time to identify for nomination, unsung alumni achievers—those whose achievements in little-known corners of the country are exceptional but have remained unheralded and unrecognized.

The UPAA would appreciate it if you could disseminate the attached circular on the UPAA Alumni Awards 2010 and if you could yourself nominate, or encourage other alumni to nominate, deserving candidates for the awards.  In accordance with our open-nomination process, the UPAA encourages you to form Search Panels in your campus or geographic area.

The attached circular also includes the  standard nomination form.  Please submit nominations not later than APRIL 15, 2010.  Mailed entries must be post marked not later than the said date.  Please be informed that only properly completed nominations shall be accepted.
