171 UP Diliman students are from Leyte and Samar, the two provinces hardest hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda, the strongest weather disturbance ever to make landfall on record. 95 of these students are enrolled in the College of Engineering.
195 students from the devastated UPV Tacloban and UPM School of Sciences in Palo, Leyte, have cross-registered in UP Diliman; 63 are enrolled in a science course.
They need a living allowance of P5,000.00 per month, or P20,000.00 per semester, for their subsistence alone. In addition, they need dormitory essentials, furniture and equipment — such as personal care products, beddings, electric fans, etc.
